Peckham Rye Lido is reborn

Peckham Rye Lido is reborn
Studio Octopi has won an invited competition to draw up plans for a new lido at Peckham Rye in South London

The practice competed against East London-based architects practice Red Deer to win the job.

Studio Octopi will now work with lido campaign founders Ben Lloyd-Ennals and Jim Glynn, alongside the local community to deliver the lido.

The plans include a 50m heated pool surrounded by smaller natural pools that would draw water from the underground River Peck which runs directly beneath the site.

Alongside the pools would be single–storey pavilions housing a gym, café and community space.

The lido will be located at the northern tip of the Rye, where there had previously been a 50m lido which closed in 1987, fell derelict and then was cleared.

The job follows the practice’s recent plans for a floating baths in the River Thames.
