From Tides to Tidal Pool

A Coastal Day Out for Brockwell Swimmers

On Saturday 26th July, Brockwell Swimmers swapped pool water for sea spray on a coastal ‘Swim/Walk’ from Broadstairs to Margate. After catching the train down from London, the group of fourteen set off from Broadstairs under slightly ominous skies. With the tide high, the route followed the clifftop coastal path, offering dramatic views and a refreshing sea breeze as the group made their way steadily north.

A well-earned lunch stop at Botany Bay was followed by a bracing swim in the gently choppy water, some dived straight in while others took a slightly more cautious approach. The walk continued through Kingsgate and Palm Bay before reaching the submerged Walpole Bay Tidal Pool. Despite its mysterious disappearance beneath the waves, a quick dip was still managed, if only to say they had swum in two bays in one afternoon.

The day finished in suitably relaxed fashion with a round, or two, of drinks at the Bulls Head in Margate. Tired legs and damp bags aside, the group boarded the train home with a sense of quiet satisfaction. It was a day of sea air, camaraderie, and coastal adventure, and a fine reminder that not all swims begin at the Lido.
