A Wonderful days swimming in Windermere

Brockwell Icicles

Brockwell IciclesDespite the threats of the wrong snow on the line all our Brockwell Swimmers managed to make it to Lake Windermere for a weekend of glorious cold water swimming at Chill Swim 2015. The event was very well organised with a tight schedule making sure nobody was hanging around getting cold:

• 8:45am – 450m Endurance Swim

• 11:15am – 120m Freestyle

• 12:40pm – 30m Head Up Breaststroke

• 1:25pm – 60m Freestyle

• 2:50pm – 4 x 30m Relays

• 5pm – Awards and prize giving

• 7pm – Barn Dance and Buffet

Brockwell supplied a strong team of ten swimmers including, Talya Tibbon, Noelene Dasey, Marcus Maguire, Katie Kingwell, Liz Barraclough, Marianne Atherton, Lesley Preston, Rachel Dickens, Clare Reynolds and Tim Sutton. And better still we won some medals with Rachel Dickens winning silver in her 60 metre freestyle category and Clare Reynolds winning bronze in her 30 metre breaststroke. Brilliant work girls.

Tim Sutton was also raising money for the Frank Water charity and has so far totalled £573.80. It’s still not too late to donate by clicking on the Just Giving link here>>

Amazing to see so many swimmers, and a wide variety of swimwear too. Who will ever forget the thongs of the East German Ladies team (actually all blokes from Hampstead Mens Ponds)?

Also the range of ages and abilities was equally impressive. Really does go to prove the wide appeal and increasing popularity of the sport.

Then to finish things of with a swing there was the infamous Barn Dance and buffet at the Low Wood Bay Hotel. A great way of meeting other swimmers from all over the UK, as well as Russia, Finland and beyond.

Clare Reynolds @clarereynolds20The next Chill Swim event will be the Coniston Swim End-to-End Saturday 5th September, 2015. The route will start at the south of the lake and finish at the north shore end. After the first mile swimmers will keep within approximately 50 metres of the shore and event buoys and support water craft will direct swimmers.
