Open Water Summer Sessions Start

Our first coached open water swim of 2018 starts early morning at Thorpe Lake on Sunday 29th April which is located an hours drive from Brockwell Lido down the M3 between Staines and Chertsey. The lake has three courses of 400 metres, 750 metres and 1,500 metres. (Shepperton Lake opens mid-May)

Our second coached open water swim will be at Shepperton Lake on Sunday May 20th. Meet 7am at Brockwell Lido Car Park or meet at the lake at 8pm. If you need a lift, or can give others a lift, please contact us.

Thorpe Lake is an ideal spot for beginners wanting to experience the freedom of Open Water as well as more experienced lovers of the sport. The water is regularly monitored for cleanliness with rescue boats keeping an eye on the swimmers at all times. Parking is available plus hot showers, toilet, wetsuits for hire and a cafe for a hot cup of tea afterwards.

Our third Open Water trip will be a return to Shepperton Lake on Saturday 7th July, sadly without Steve so this will be an uncoached session. Meet 7am at Brockwell Lido or 8am at the Lake. If you need a lift, or able to offer a lift, please contact us. Participants take part at their own risk.

The temperature of the water will be around 16°C so if you have swum in the lido during the winter you should be fine, otherwise a wetsuit is advised. Cost for swimming in the lake will be £7 payable when you get there.

You will also need you to sign up online for a NOWCA (National Open Water Coaching Association) wrist band costing £12 per year. This will enable you to swim at other UK open water locations, including Victoria Dock, so a useful thing to have in your swim bag. To save time we ask you to do this in advance naming ‘Thorpe’ as your collection point:

Club costs will be £5 for our coach and petrol costs for those offering to drive. Please pay this at our Shopping Swim page. All three payments come to a total of £24.

What will you gain from this?

• A coached experience of Open Water.
• Useful techniques such as sighting, breathing and navigation.
• Swim better and faster in Open Water.
• NOWCA wristband to monitor swim distance and times.

We will meet outside the gates of Brockwell Lido and leave promptly at 7am. Do not be late.

IMPORTANT – If you will be driving and able to give other a lift please let us know as soon as possible.

Participants take part at their own risk and the club can take no responsibility for any injury or accident incurred. For full details click here.
