Three Teams, One Club

Brockwell Swimmers fielded three teams at the Tooting Mid-Summer Relays on Wednesday 24th June, enjoying a beautiful warm summer evening of racing against 36 teams from across London and beyond. Each team consisted of four swimmers competing in a relay format, with each swimmer taking turns to swim a single length before handing over to the next teammate. Over the course of the race, every swimmer completed four lengths, making 16 lengths in total per team.

The event is held in Tooting Bec Lido’s impressive 100 yard pool, twice the length of Brockwell Lido, which presents a very different challenge from our regular swims. The longer lengths demand careful pacing and endurance, while the relay format rewards teamwork and consistency. Against strong competition, Brockwell’s teams finished 4th, 6th and 11th in their age-group category of 17 teams, and 11th, 13th and 23rd overall from the full field of 36 teams. Although we narrowly missed out on medals, all three teams produced excellent performances and represented the club with distinction.

As always, the event was about much more than results alone. The relays provided a fantastic opportunity to race, support teammates and enjoy the unique atmosphere of one of London’s most popular summer swimming events. Afterwards, swimmers and supporters gathered at the Prince Regent for a well-earned debrief, where other club members joined in the celebrations and shared stories from the evening. It was a fitting end to a successful night for Brockwell Swimmers both in and out of the water.
