Walk, Swim, Eat, Repeat!

Twelve hardy Brockwell Swimmers turned up in Dover on Saturday 26 September for our last Swim & Walk of the year, a beautiful 11-mile trek along the coast to Folkestone. We were joined by two guests from South London Swimming Club, plus another adventurous soul who had discovered the event through searching the net.

The weather was glorious, the views were spectacular and the route was… well, let’s just say there was rather more up and down than some of us had anticipated. Fortunately, being swimmers, we were perfectly happy to blame the hills for any tired legs. There were two essential swimming stops along the way. The first was at Dover, where we plunged into the water from the stoney beach, and the second was at Folkestone, where the lovely soft sand made getting in and out considerably more civilised. Two swims, 11 miles and countless hills – not a bad day’s work.

Arriving in Folkestone, the group headed to the Harbour Inn for some well-earned drinks. Some wisely decided that was enough adventure for one day and headed home, while the rest of us demonstrated the true Brockwell Swimmers spirit by staying on for some very tasty fresh seafood and wine.

Eventually, everyone made their way home – tired, well-fed, slightly wine-happier than when they arrived, and in a thoroughly joyful mood. Another great Brockwell Swimmers day out.
